Press Release 13th April

The Executive of the Port Macquarie Kart Racing Club Inc. (The Club) is pleased to announce that it has entered into mediation with Karting NSW (Karting) around the current track closure.

The Club is optimistic that a sensible outcome will be achieved and has committed to adhering to the final recommendations from the mediator.

The Club has always maintained that the safety of the participants that use the Pacific Park circuit are always at the forefront of all decisions that are made regarding the operation of the track.

The Club will work with all regulatory bodies to achieve the best outcome within the current legal parameters that apply to the tree on Big Tree Corner.

The appropriate risk assessments have been carried out and the risk has been mitigated by the control measures that have been implemented, these include;

·        Ringing the tree with 13’ Tyres, &

·        Catch Traps.

The history around the tree on Big Tree corner must be considered when the risk assessment process is undertaken, the fact that no incidents or injuries have occurred at this corner reduces the likely hood of an incident. This is recorded fact which is supported by the Track Log Book.

The Club looks forward to working with Karting in a collaborative way to move forward from this issue and to drive the expansion and popularity of Karting within the region.
